Verse (17:16), Word 4 - Quranic Grammar

The fourth word of verse (17:16) is a form IV imperfect verb (فعل مضارع). The verb is first person plural and is in the subjunctive mood (منصوب). The verb's triliteral root is hā lām kāf (ه ل ك).

Sahih International: And when We intend to destroy a city, We command its affluent but they defiantly disobey therein; so the word comes into effect upon it, and We destroy it with [complete] destruction.
