Verse (12:40), Word 7 - Quranic Grammar

The seventh word of verse (12:40) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A verb, subject pronoun and object pronoun. The form II perfect verb (فعل ماض) is second person masculine plural. The verb's triliteral root is sīn mīm wāw (س م و). The suffix (التاء) is an attached subject pronoun. The attached object pronoun is third person feminine singular.

Verse (12:40)

The analysis above refers to the 40th verse of chapter 12 (sūrat yūsuf):

Sahih International: You worship not besides Him except [mere] names you have named them, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. Legislation is not but for Allah. He has commanded that you worship not except Him. That is the correct religion, but most of the people do not know.
