Verse (12:24), Word 12 - Quranic Grammar

The twelfth word of verse (12:24) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A particle of purpose and verb. The prefixed particle lām is used to indicate the purpose of an action and makes the following verb subjunctive. The imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is first person plural and is in the subjunctive mood (منصوب). The verb's triliteral root is ṣād rā fā (ص ر ف).

Verse (12:24)

The analysis above refers to the 24th verse of chapter 12 (sūrat yūsuf):

Sahih International: And she certainly determined [to seduce] him, and he would have inclined to her had he not seen the proof of his Lord. And thus [it was] that We should avert from him evil and immorality. Indeed, he was of Our chosen servants.
