Verse (10:19), Word 7 - Quranic Grammar

The seventh word of verse (10:19) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A resumption particle, verb and subject pronoun. The connective particle fa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate a sequence of events. The form VIII perfect verb (فعل ماض) is third person masculine plural. The verb's triliteral root is khā lām fā (خ ل ف). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun.

Sahih International: And mankind was not but one community [united in religion], but [then] they differed. And if not for a word that preceded from your Lord, it would have been judged between them [immediately] concerning that over which they differ.
