The triliteral root rā hā qāf (ر ه ق) occurs 10 times in the Quran, in three derived forms:

  • five times as the form I verb yarhaqu (يَرْهَقُ)
  • three times as the form IV verb yur'hiqa (يُرْهِقَ)
  • twice as the noun rahaq (رَهَق)

Verb (form I) - to cover

(10:26:6) yarhaqu(will) cover وَلَا يَرْهَقُ وُجُوهَهُمْ قَتَرٌ وَلَا ذِلَّةٌ
(10:27:7) watarhaquhumand (will) cover them وَالَّذِينَ كَسَبُوا السَّيِّئَاتِ جَزَاءُ سَيِّئَةٍ بِمِثْلِهَا وَتَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ
(68:43:3) tarhaquhumwill cover them خَاشِعَةً أَبْصَارُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ وَقَدْ كَانُوا يُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى السُّجُودِ

Verb (form IV) - to be hard on, to overburden, to cover

(18:73:7) tur'hiq'nībe hard (upon) me قَالَ لَا تُؤَاخِذْنِي بِمَا نَسِيتُ وَلَا تُرْهِقْنِي مِنْ أَمْرِي عُسْرًا
(18:80:8) yur'hiqahumāhe would overburden them فَخَشِينَا أَنْ يُرْهِقَهُمَا طُغْيَانًا وَكُفْرًا
(74:17:1) sa-ur'hiquhuSoon I will cover Him سَأُرْهِقُهُ صَعُودًا
