Quran Dictionary - ق ص د

The triliteral root qāf ṣād dāl (ق ص د) occurs six times in the Quran, in five derived forms:

  • once as the form I verb iq'ṣid (ٱقْصِدْ)
  • once as the noun qaṣd (قَصْد)
  • once as the active participle qāṣid (قَاصِد)
  • twice as the form VIII active participle muq'taṣid (مُّقْتَصِد)
  • once as the form VIII active participle muq'taṣidat (مُّقْتَصِدَة)

Verb (form I) - to be moderate

(31:19:1) wa-iq'ṣidAnd be moderate وَاقْصِدْ فِي مَشْيِكَ وَاغْضُضْ مِنْ صَوْتِكَ

Noun

(16:9:3) qaṣdu(is) the direction وَعَلَى اللَّهِ قَصْدُ السَّبِيلِ وَمِنْهَا جَائِرٌ

Active participle

(9:42:6) qāṣidaneasy لَوْ كَانَ عَرَضًا قَرِيبًا وَسَفَرًا قَاصِدًا لَاتَّبَعُوكَ

Active participle (form VIII)

(31:32:15) muq'taṣidun(some are) moderate فَلَمَّا نَجَّاهُمْ إِلَى الْبَرِّ فَمِنْهُمْ مُقْتَصِدٌ
(35:32:12) muq'taṣidun(is he who is) moderate فَمِنْهُمْ ظَالِمٌ لِنَفْسِهِ وَمِنْهُمْ مُقْتَصِدٌ وَمِنْهُمْ سَابِقٌ بِالْخَيْرَاتِ

Active participle (form VIII)

(5:66:19) muq'taṣidatunmoderate مِنْهُمْ أُمَّةٌ مُقْتَصِدَةٌ وَكَثِيرٌ مِنْهُمْ سَاءَ مَا يَعْمَلُونَ
