The triliteral root nūn ṭā qāf (ن ط ق) occurs 12 times in the Quran, in three derived forms:

  • nine times as the form I verb yanṭiqu (يَنطِقُ)
  • twice as the form IV verb anṭaqa (أَنطَقَ)
  • once as the noun manṭiq (مَنطِق)

Verb (form I) - to speak

(21:63:9) yanṭiqūnaspeak قَالَ بَلْ فَعَلَهُ كَبِيرُهُمْ هَٰذَا فَاسْأَلُوهُمْ إِنْ كَانُوا يَنْطِقُونَ
(21:65:9) yanṭiqūna(can) speak ثُمَّ نُكِسُوا عَلَىٰ رُءُوسِهِمْ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ مَا هَٰؤُلَاءِ يَنْطِقُونَ
(23:62:8) yanṭiqu(which) speaks وَلَدَيْنَا كِتَابٌ يَنْطِقُ بِالْحَقِّ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ
(27:85:8) yanṭiqūnaspeak وَوَقَعَ الْقَوْلُ عَلَيْهِمْ بِمَا ظَلَمُوا فَهُمْ لَا يَنْطِقُونَ
(37:92:4) tanṭiqūnayou speak مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنْطِقُونَ
(45:29:3) yanṭiquspeaks هَٰذَا كِتَابُنَا يَنْطِقُ عَلَيْكُمْ بِالْحَقِّ
(51:23:9) tanṭiqūnaspeak فَوَرَبِّ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ إِنَّهُ لَحَقٌّ مِثْلَ مَا أَنَّكُمْ تَنْطِقُونَ
(53:3:2) yanṭiquhe speaks وَمَا يَنْطِقُ عَنِ الْهَوَىٰ
(77:35:4) yanṭiqūnathey will speak هَٰذَا يَوْمُ لَا يَنْطِقُونَ

Verb (form IV) - to make speak

(41:21:7) anṭaqanāAllah made us speak وَقَالُوا لِجُلُودِهِمْ لِمَ شَهِدْتُمْ عَلَيْنَا قَالُوا أَنْطَقَنَا اللَّهُ
(41:21:10) anṭaqamakes speak قَالُوا أَنْطَقَنَا اللَّهُ الَّذِي أَنْطَقَ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ

(27:16:8) manṭiqa(the) language وَقَالَ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ عُلِّمْنَا مَنْطِقَ الطَّيْرِ وَأُوتِينَا مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ
