Quran Dictionary - م و ر


The triliteral root mīm wāw rā (م و ر) occurs three times in the Quran, in two derived forms:

  • twice as the form I verb tamūru (تَمُورُ)
  • once as the noun mawr (مَوْر)

Verb (form I) - to shake, to sway

(52:9:2) tamūruwill shake يَوْمَ تَمُورُ السَّمَاءُ مَوْرًا
(67:16:11) tamūrusways أَأَمِنْتُمْ مَنْ فِي السَّمَاءِ أَنْ يَخْسِفَ بِكُمُ الْأَرْضَ فَإِذَا هِيَ تَمُورُ


(52:9:4) mawran(with violent) shake يَوْمَ تَمُورُ السَّمَاءُ مَوْرًا
