The triliteral root dāl rā hamza (د ر أ) occurs five times in the Quran, in two derived forms:
- four times as the form I verb yadra-u (يَدْرَؤُا۟)
- once as the form VI verb iddāra (ٱدَّٰرَْٰٔ)

Verb (form I) - to avert, to repel, to prevent
(3:168:10) fa-id'raū | Then avert | قُلْ فَادْرَءُوا عَنْ أَنْفُسِكُمُ الْمَوْتَ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ |
(13:22:13) wayadraūna | and they repel | وَيَدْرَءُونَ بِالْحَسَنَةِ السَّيِّئَةَ أُولَٰئِكَ لَهُمْ عُقْبَى الدَّارِ |
(24:8:1) wayadra-u | But it would prevent | وَيَدْرَأُ عَنْهَا الْعَذَابَ أَنْ تَشْهَدَ أَرْبَعَ شَهَادَاتٍ بِاللَّهِ إِنَّهُ لَمِنَ الْكَاذِبِينَ |
(28:54:7) wayadraūna | and they repel | أُولَٰئِكَ يُؤْتَوْنَ أَجْرَهُمْ مَرَّتَيْنِ بِمَا صَبَرُوا وَيَدْرَءُونَ بِالْحَسَنَةِ السَّيِّئَةَ |

(2:72:4) fa-iddāratum | then you disputed | وَإِذْ قَتَلْتُمْ نَفْسًا فَادَّارَأْتُمْ فِيهَا |
