Quran Dictionary - د ل و

The triliteral root dāl lām wāw (د ل و) occurs four times in the Quran, in three derived forms:

  • once as the form I verb tadallā (تَدَلَّىٰ)
  • twice as the form IV verb adlā (أَدْلَىٰ)
  • once as the noun dalū (دَلْو)

Verb (form I) - to come down

(53:8:3) fatadallāand came down ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ

Verb (form IV) - to present, to let down

(2:188:6) watud'lūand present وَلَا تَأْكُلُوا أَمْوَالَكُمْ بَيْنَكُمْ بِالْبَاطِلِ وَتُدْلُوا بِهَا إِلَى الْحُكَّامِ
(12:19:5) fa-adlāthen he let down وَجَاءَتْ سَيَّارَةٌ فَأَرْسَلُوا وَارِدَهُمْ فَأَدْلَىٰ دَلْوَهُ
