Quran Dictionary - ب ذ ر

The triliteral root bā dhāl rā (ب ذ ر) occurs three times in the Quran, in three derived forms:

  • once as the form II verb tubadhir (تُبَذِّرْ)
  • once as the form II verbal noun tabdhīr (تَبْذِير)
  • once as the form II active participle mubadhirīn (مُبَذِّرِين)

Verb (form II) - to squander, to waste

(17:26:9) tubadhirspend وَآتِ ذَا الْقُرْبَىٰ حَقَّهُ وَالْمِسْكِينَ وَابْنَ السَّبِيلِ وَلَا تُبَذِّرْ

Verbal noun (form II)

(17:26:10) tabdhīranwastefully وَلَا تُبَذِّرْ تَبْذِيرًا

Active participle (form II)

(17:27:2) l-mubadhirīnathe spendthrifts إِنَّ الْمُبَذِّرِينَ كَانُوا إِخْوَانَ الشَّيَاطِينِ
