Quran Dictionary - ح ط م


The triliteral root ḥā ṭā mīm (ح ط م) occurs six times in the Quran, in three derived forms:

  • once as the form I verb yaḥṭima (يَحْطِمَ)
  • three times as the noun ḥuṭām (حُطَٰم)
  • twice as the noun ḥuṭamat (حُطَمَة)

Verb (form I) - to crush

(27:18:14) yaḥṭimannakumlest not crush you ادْخُلُوا مَسَاكِنَكُمْ لَا يَحْطِمَنَّكُمْ سُلَيْمَانُ وَجُنُودُهُ


(39:21:25) ḥuṭāmandebris ثُمَّ يَهِيجُ فَتَرَاهُ مُصْفَرًّا ثُمَّ يَجْعَلُهُ حُطَامًا
(56:65:4) ḥuṭāmandebris لَوْ نَشَاءُ لَجَعَلْنَاهُ حُطَامًا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ
(57:20:25) ḥuṭāmandebris ثُمَّ يَهِيجُ فَتَرَاهُ مُصْفَرًّا ثُمَّ يَكُونُ حُطَامًا


(104:4:4) l-ḥuṭamatithe Crusher كَلَّا لَيُنْبَذَنَّ فِي الْحُطَمَةِ
(104:5:4) l-ḥuṭamatuthe Crusher (is) وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْحُطَمَةُ
