The triliteral root shīn qāf qāf (ش ق ق) occurs 28 times in the Quran, in nine derived forms:

  • twice as the form I verb shaqaq (شَقَقْ)
  • seven times as the form III verb shāqqu (شَآقُّ)
  • three times as the form V verb yashaqqaqu (يَشَّقَّقُ)
  • five times as the form VII verb inshaqqa (ٱنشَقَّ)
  • once as the adjective ashaqq (أَشَقّ)
  • once as the noun shiqq (شِقّ)
  • once as the noun shaqq (شَقّ)
  • once as the noun shuqqat (شُّقَّة)

Verb (form I) - to make difficult, to cleave

(28:27:22) ashuqqamake it difficult فَإِنْ أَتْمَمْتَ عَشْرًا فَمِنْ عِنْدِكَ وَمَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَيْكَ
(80:26:2) shaqaqnāWe cleaved ثُمَّ شَقَقْنَا الْأَرْضَ شَقًّا

Verb (form III) - to oppose

(4:115:2) yushāqiqiopposes وَمَنْ يُشَاقِقِ الرَّسُولَ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُ الْهُدَىٰ وَيَتَّبِعْ غَيْرَ سَبِيلِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ نُوَلِّهِ مَا تَوَلَّىٰ
(8:13:3) shāqqūopposed ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ شَاقُّوا اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ
(8:13:7) yushāqiqiopposes وَمَنْ يُشَاقِقِ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ
(16:27:10) tushāqqūnaoppose وَيَقُولُ أَيْنَ شُرَكَائِيَ الَّذِينَ كُنْتُمْ تُشَاقُّونَ فِيهِمْ
(47:32:8) washāqqūand oppose وَشَاقُّوا الرَّسُولَ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُمُ الْهُدَىٰ
(59:4:3) shāqqūthey opposed ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ شَاقُّوا اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ
(59:4:7) yushāqqiopposes وَمَنْ يُشَاقِّ اللَّهَ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ

Verb (form V) - to split

(2:74:22) yashaqqaqusplit وَإِنَّ مِنْهَا لَمَا يَشَّقَّقُ فَيَخْرُجُ مِنْهُ الْمَاءُ
(25:25:2) tashaqqaquwill split open وَيَوْمَ تَشَقَّقُ السَّمَاءُ بِالْغَمَامِ وَنُزِّلَ الْمَلَائِكَةُ تَنْزِيلًا
(50:44:2) tashaqqaquwill split يَوْمَ تَشَقَّقُ الْأَرْضُ عَنْهُمْ سِرَاعًا ذَٰلِكَ حَشْرٌ عَلَيْنَا يَسِيرٌ

Verb (form VII) - to split

(19:90:5) watanshaqquand splits asunder تَكَادُ السَّمَاوَاتُ يَتَفَطَّرْنَ مِنْهُ وَتَنْشَقُّ الْأَرْضُ
(54:1:3) wa-inshaqqaand has split اقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ
(55:37:2) inshaqqatiis split فَإِذَا انْشَقَّتِ السَّمَاءُ فَكَانَتْ وَرْدَةً كَالدِّهَانِ
(69:16:1) wa-inshaqqatiAnd will split وَانْشَقَّتِ السَّمَاءُ فَهِيَ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاهِيَةٌ
(84:1:3) inshaqqatis split asunder إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ
