Verse (9:34), Word 12 - Quranic Grammar

The twelfth word of verse (9:34) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A preposition and active participle. The prefixed preposition bi is usually translated as "with" or "by". The active participle is masculine and is in the genitive case (مجرور). The active participle's triliteral root is bā ṭā lām (ب ط ل). Together the segments form a preposition phrase known as jār wa majrūr (جار ومجرور).

Sahih International: O you who have believed, indeed many of the scholars and the monks devour the wealth of people unjustly and avert [them] from the way of Allah. And those who hoard gold and silver and spend it not in the way of Allah - give them tidings of a painful punishment.
