Verse (9:18), Word 18 - Quranic Grammar

The eighteenth word of verse (9:18) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A resumption particle and verb. The connective particle fa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate a sequence of events. The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is third person masculine singular. The verb's triliteral root is ʿayn sīn yā (ع س ي).

Sahih International: The mosques of Allah are only to be maintained by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day and establish prayer and give zakah and do not fear except Allah , for it is expected that those will be of the [rightly] guided.

verb of anticipation فعل الرَّجَاء, always in the perfect, mostly with following اَن and imperfect verb in the subjunctive مَنْصُوب .
