Verse (9:107), Word 16 - Quranic Grammar

The sixteenth word of verse (9:107) is divided into 4 morphological segments. A conjunction, emphatic prefix, verb and emphatic suffix. The prefixed conjunction wa is usually translated as "and". The prefixed particle lām is usually translated as "surely" or "indeed" and is used to add emphasis. The imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is third person masculine plural and is in the indicative mood (مرفوع). The verb's triliteral root is ḥā lām fā (ح ل ف). The suffixed emphatic particle is known as the nūn of emphasis (نون التوكيد).

And surely they will swear,

Verse (9:107)

The analysis above refers to the 107th verse of chapter 9 (sūrat l-tawbah):

Sahih International: And [there are] those [hypocrites] who took for themselves a mosque for causing harm and disbelief and division among the believers and as a station for whoever had warred against Allah and His Messenger before. And they will surely swear, "We intended only the best." And Allah testifies that indeed they are liars.
