Verse (98:5), Word 4 - Quranic Grammar

The fourth word of verse (98:5) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A particle of purpose, verb and subject pronoun. The prefixed particle lām is used to indicate the purpose of an action and makes the following verb subjunctive. The imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is third person masculine plural and is in the subjunctive mood (منصوب). The verb's triliteral root is ʿayn bā dāl (ع ب د). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun.

Verse (98:5)

Sahih International: And they were not commanded except to worship Allah , [being] sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and to give zakah. And that is the correct religion.
