Verse (8:67), Word 5 - Quranic Grammar

The fifth word of verse (8:67) is an imperfect verb (فعل مضارع). The verb is third person masculine singular and is in the subjunctive mood (منصوب). The verb's triliteral root is kāf wāw nūn (ك و ن). The verb (يكون) belongs to a special group of words known as kāna and her sisters (كان واخواتها).

Verse (8:67)

The analysis above refers to the 67th verse of chapter 8 (sūrat l-anfāl):

Sahih International: It is not for a prophet to have captives [of war] until he inflicts a massacre [upon Allah 's enemies] in the land. Some Muslims desire the commodities of this world, but Allah desires [for you] the Hereafter. And Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.
