Verse (8:1), Word 17 - Quranic Grammar

The seventeenth word of verse (8:1) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A verb and subject pronoun. The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is second person masculine plural. The verb's triliteral root is kāf wāw nūn (ك و ن). The verb (كان) belongs to a special group of words known as kāna and her sisters (كان واخواتها). The suffix (التاء) is an attached subject pronoun.

Verse (8:1)

The analysis above refers to the first verse of chapter 8 (sūrat l-anfāl):

Sahih International: They ask you, [O Muhammad], about the bounties [of war]. Say, "The [decision concerning] bounties is for Allah and the Messenger." So fear Allah and amend that which is between you and obey Allah and His Messenger, if you should be believers.
