Verse (8:16), Word 19 - Quranic Grammar

The nineteenth word of verse (8:16) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A resumption particle and verb. The connective particle wa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate a sequence of events. The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is third person masculine singular. The verb's triliteral root is bā hamza sīn (ب أ س).

Sahih International: And whoever turns his back to them on such a day, unless swerving [as a strategy] for war or joining [another] company, has certainly returned with anger [upon him] from Allah , and his refuge is Hell - and wretched is the destination.
