Verse (6:30), Word 8 - Quranic Grammar

__

The eighth word of verse (6:30) is divided into 2 morphological segments. An interrogative alif and verb. The prefixed alif is an interrogative particle used to form a question and is usually translated as "is", "are", or "do". The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is third person masculine singular. The verb's triliteral root is lām yā sīn (ل ي س). The verb (ليس) belongs to a special group of words known as kāna and her sisters (كان واخواتها).
