Verse (65:6), Word 9 - Quranic Grammar

The ninth word of verse (65:6) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A particle of purpose, verb and subject pronoun. The prefixed particle lām is used to indicate the purpose of an action and makes the following verb subjunctive. The form II imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is second person masculine plural and is in the subjunctive mood (منصوب). The verb's triliteral root is ḍād yā qāf (ض ي ق). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun.

Verse (65:6)

The analysis above refers to the sixth verse of chapter 65 (sūrat l-ṭalāq):

Sahih International: Lodge them [in a section] of where you dwell out of your means and do not harm them in order to oppress them. And if they should be pregnant, then spend on them until they give birth. And if they breastfeed for you, then give them their payment and confer among yourselves in the acceptable way; but if you are in discord, then there may breastfeed for the father another woman.
