Verse (5:4), Word 18 - Quranic Grammar

The eighteenth word of verse (5:4) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A resumption particle, verb and subject pronoun. The connective particle fa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate a sequence of events. The imperative verb (فعل أمر) is second person masculine plural. The verb's triliteral root is hamza kāf lām (أ ك ل). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun.

Verse (5:4)

The analysis above refers to the fourth verse of chapter 5 (sūrat l-māidah):

Sahih International: They ask you, [O Muhammad], what has been made lawful for them. Say, "Lawful for you are [all] good foods and [game caught by] what you have trained of hunting animals which you train as Allah has taught you. So eat of what they catch for you, and mention the name of Allah upon it, and fear Allah." Indeed, Allah is swift in account.
