Verse (5:12), Word 31 - Quranic Grammar

The 31st word of verse (5:12) is divided into 5 morphological segments. A conjunction, emphatic prefix, verb, emphatic suffix and object pronoun. The prefixed conjunction wa is usually translated as "and". The prefixed particle lām is usually translated as "surely" or "indeed" and is used to add emphasis. The form IV imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is first person singular and is in the indicative mood (مرفوع). The verb's triliteral root is dāl khā lām (د خ ل). The suffixed emphatic particle is known as the nūn of emphasis (نون التوكيد). The attached object pronoun is second person masculine plural.

Sahih International: And Allah had already taken a covenant from the Children of Israel, and We delegated from among them twelve leaders. And Allah said, "I am with you. If you establish prayer and give zakah and believe in My messengers and support them and loan Allah a goodly loan, I will surely remove from you your misdeeds and admit you to gardens beneath which rivers flow. But whoever of you disbelieves after that has certainly strayed from the soundness of the way."
