Verse (58:9), Word 6 - Quranic Grammar

The sixth word of verse (58:9) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A resumption particle and prohibition particle. The connective particle fa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate a sequence of events. The prohibition particle (حرف نهي) is used to form a negative imperative and places the following verb into the jussive mood (مجزوم).

Sahih International: O you who have believed, when you converse privately, do not converse about sin and aggression and disobedience to the Messenger but converse about righteousness and piety. And fear Allah , to whom you will be gathered.
