Verse (58:4), Word 18 - Quranic Grammar

The eighteenth word of verse (58:4) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A particle of purpose, verb and subject pronoun. The prefixed particle lām is used to indicate the purpose of an action and makes the following verb subjunctive. The form IV imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is second person masculine plural and is in the subjunctive mood (منصوب). The verb's triliteral root is hamza mīm nūn (أ م ن). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun.

Verse (58:4)

The analysis above refers to the fourth verse of chapter 58 (sūrat l-mujādilah):

Sahih International: And he who does not find [a slave] - then a fast for two months consecutively before they touch one another; and he who is unable - then the feeding of sixty poor persons. That is for you to believe [completely] in Allah and His Messenger; and those are the limits [set by] Allah. And for the disbelievers is a painful punishment.
