Verse (4:84), Word 11 - Quranic Grammar

The eleventh word of verse (4:84) is a perfect verb (فعل ماض). The verb is third person masculine singular. The verb's triliteral root is ʿayn sīn yā (ع س ي). The verb (عسى) belongs to a special group of words known as kāda and her sisters (كاد واخواتها).

Verse (4:84)

The analysis above refers to the 84th verse of chapter 4 (sūrat l-nisāa):

Sahih International: So fight, [O Muhammad], in the cause of Allah ; you are not held responsible except for yourself. And encourage the believers [to join you] that perhaps Allah will restrain the [military] might of those who disbelieve. And Allah is greater in might and stronger in [exemplary] punishment.

verb of anticipation فعل الرَّجَاء, always in the perfect, mostly with following اَن and imperfect verb in the subjunctive مَنْصُوب .
