Verse (4:83), Word 18 - Quranic Grammar

The eighteenth word of verse (4:83) is divided into 3 morphological segments. An emphatic prefix, verb and object pronoun. The prefixed particle lām is usually translated as "surely" or "indeed" and is used to add emphasis. The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is third person masculine singular. The verb's triliteral root is ʿayn lām mīm (ع ل م). The attached object pronoun is third person masculine singular.

Verse (4:83)

Sahih International: And when there comes to them information about [public] security or fear, they spread it around. But if they had referred it back to the Messenger or to those of authority among them, then the ones who [can] draw correct conclusions from it would have known about it. And if not for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy, you would have followed Satan, except for a few.
