Verse (4:74), Word 1 - Quranic Grammar

The first word of verse (4:74) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A resumption particle, imperative particle and verb. The connective particle fa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate a sequence of events. The prefixed particle lām is usually translated as "let" and is used to form an imperative construction. The form III imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is third person masculine singular and is in the jussive mood (مجزوم). The verb's triliteral root is qāf tā lām (ق ت ل).

Sahih International: So let those fight in the cause of Allah who sell the life of this world for the Hereafter. And he who fights in the cause of Allah and is killed or achieves victory - We will bestow upon him a great reward.
