Verse (4:47), Word 16 - Quranic Grammar

The sixteenth word of verse (4:47) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A particle of cause, verb and object pronoun. The prefixed particle fa is usually translated as "then" or "so". The particle is used to indicate cause and makes the following verb subjunctive. The imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is first person plural and is in the subjunctive mood (منصوب). The verb's triliteral root is rā dāl dāl (ر د د). The attached object pronoun is third person feminine singular.

Sahih International: O you who were given the Scripture, believe in what We have sent down [to Muhammad], confirming that which is with you, before We obliterate faces and turn them toward their backs or curse them as We cursed the sabbath-breakers. And ever is the decree of Allah accomplished.
