Verse (4:18), Word 1 - Quranic Grammar

The first word of verse (4:18) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A conjunction and verb. The prefixed conjunction wa is usually translated as "and". The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is third person feminine singular. The verb's triliteral root is lām yā sīn (ل ي س). The verb (ليس) belongs to a special group of words known as kāna and her sisters (كان واخواتها).

Verse (4:18)

The analysis above refers to the eighteenth verse of chapter 4 (sūrat l-nisāa):

Sahih International: But repentance is not [accepted] of those who [continue to] do evil deeds up until, when death comes to one of them, he says, "Indeed, I have repented now," or of those who die while they are disbelievers. For them We have prepared a painful punishment.
