Verse (4:16), Word 4 - Quranic Grammar

The fourth word of verse (4:16) is divided into 4 morphological segments. A resumption particle, verb, subject pronoun and object pronoun. The connective particle fa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate a sequence of events. The form IV imperative verb (فعل أمر) is second person masculine plural. The verb's triliteral root is hamza dhāl yā (أ ذ ي). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun. The attached object pronoun is third person dual.

Verse (4:16)

The analysis above refers to the sixteenth verse of chapter 4 (sūrat l-nisāa):

Sahih International: And the two who commit it among you, dishonor them both. But if they repent and correct themselves, leave them alone. Indeed, Allah is ever Accepting of repentance and Merciful.
