Verse (4:129), Word 9 - Quranic Grammar

The ninth word of verse (4:129) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A result particle and prohibition particle. The result particle fa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate the result of a condition. The prohibition particle (حرف نهي) is used to form a negative imperative and places the following verb into the jussive mood (مجزوم).

Verse (4:129)

The analysis above refers to the 129th verse of chapter 4 (sūrat l-nisāa):

Sahih International: And you will never be able to be equal [in feeling] between wives, even if you should strive [to do so]. So do not incline completely [toward one] and leave another hanging. And if you amend [your affairs] and fear Allah - then indeed, Allah is ever Forgiving and Merciful.
