Verse (4:129), Word 13 - Quranic Grammar

The thirteenth word of verse (4:129) is divided into 4 morphological segments. A particle of cause, verb, subject pronoun and object pronoun. The prefixed particle fa is usually translated as "then" or "so". The particle is used to indicate cause and makes the following verb subjunctive. The imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is second person masculine plural and is in the subjunctive mood (منصوب). The verb's triliteral root is wāw dhāl rā (و ذ ر). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun. The attached object pronoun is third person feminine singular.

Verse (4:129)

The analysis above refers to the 129th verse of chapter 4 (sūrat l-nisāa):

Sahih International: And you will never be able to be equal [in feeling] between wives, even if you should strive [to do so]. So do not incline completely [toward one] and leave another hanging. And if you amend [your affairs] and fear Allah - then indeed, Allah is ever Forgiving and Merciful.
