Verse (49:9), Word 6 - Quranic Grammar

The sixth word of verse (49:9) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A resumption particle, verb and subject pronoun. The connective particle fa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate a sequence of events. The form IV imperative verb (فعل أمر) is second person masculine plural. The verb's triliteral root is ṣād lām ḥā (ص ل ح). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun.

Verse (49:9)

The analysis above refers to the ninth verse of chapter 49 (sūrat l-ḥujurāt):

Sahih International: And if two factions among the believers should fight, then make settlement between the two. But if one of them oppresses the other, then fight against the one that oppresses until it returns to the ordinance of Allah. And if it returns, then make settlement between them in justice and act justly. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly.
