Verse (42:5), Word 1 - Quranic Grammar

The first word of verse (42:5) is an imperfect verb (فعل مضارع). The verb is third person feminine singular and is in the indicative mood (مرفوع). The verb's triliteral root is kāf wāw dāl (ك و د). The verb (تكاد) belongs to a special group of words known as kāda and her sisters (كاد واخواتها).

Sahih International: The heavens almost break from above them, and the angels exalt [Allah] with praise of their Lord and ask forgiveness for those on earth. Unquestionably, it is Allah who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.
