Verse (42:14), Word 19 - Quranic Grammar

The nineteenth word of verse (42:14) is divided into 2 morphological segments. An emphatic prefix and verb. The prefixed particle lām is usually translated as "surely" or "indeed" and is used to add emphasis. The passive perfect verb (فعل ماض) is third person masculine singular. The verb's triliteral root is qāf ḍād yā (ق ض ي).

Verse (42:14)

The analysis above refers to the fourteenth verse of chapter 42 (sūrat l-shūrā):

Sahih International: And they did not become divided until after knowledge had come to them - out of jealous animosity between themselves. And if not for a word that preceded from your Lord [postponing the penalty] until a specified time, it would have been concluded between them. And indeed, those who were granted inheritance of the Scripture after them are, concerning it, in disquieting doubt.
