Verse (3:159), Word 12 - Quranic Grammar

The twelfth word of verse (3:159) is divided into 3 morphological segments. An emphatic prefix, verb and subject pronoun. The prefixed particle lām is usually translated as "surely" or "indeed" and is used to add emphasis. The form VII perfect verb (فعل ماض) is third person masculine plural. The verb's triliteral root is fā ḍād ḍād (ف ض ض). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun.

Verse (3:159)

The analysis above refers to the 159th verse of chapter 3 (sūrat āl ʿim'rān):

Sahih International: So by mercy from Allah , [O Muhammad], you were lenient with them. And if you had been rude [in speech] and harsh in heart, they would have disbanded from about you. So pardon them and ask forgiveness for them and consult them in the matter. And when you have decided, then rely upon Allah. Indeed, Allah loves those who rely [upon Him].
