Verse (3:145), Word 3 - Quranic Grammar

The third word of verse (3:145) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A preposition and noun. The prefixed preposition lām is usually translated as "for". The indefinite noun is feminine singular and is in the genitive case (مجرور). The noun's triliteral root is nūn fā sīn (ن ف س). Together the segments form a preposition phrase known as jār wa majrūr (جار ومجرور).

Sahih International: And it is not [possible] for one to die except by permission of Allah at a decree determined. And whoever desires the reward of this world - We will give him thereof; and whoever desires the reward of the Hereafter - We will give him thereof. And we will reward the grateful.
