Verse (39:47), Word 11 - Quranic Grammar

The eleventh word of verse (39:47) is divided into 3 morphological segments. An emphatic prefix, verb and subject pronoun. The prefixed particle lām is usually translated as "surely" or "indeed" and is used to add emphasis. The form VIII perfect verb (فعل ماض) is third person masculine plural. The verb's triliteral root is fā dāl yā (ف د ي). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun.

Verse (39:47)

The analysis above refers to the 47th verse of chapter 39 (sūrat l-zumar):

Sahih International: And if those who did wrong had all that is in the earth entirely and the like of it with it, they would [attempt to] ransom themselves thereby from the worst of the punishment on the Day of Resurrection. And there will appear to them from Allah that which they had not taken into account.
