Verse (38:8), Word 1 - Quranic Grammar

The first word of verse (38:8) is divided into 2 morphological segments. An interrogative alif and verb. The prefixed alif is an interrogative particle used to form a question and is usually translated as "is", "are", or "do". The passive form IV perfect verb (فعل ماض) is third person masculine singular. The verb's triliteral root is nūn zāy lām (ن ز ل).

Sahih International: Has the message been revealed to him out of [all of] us?" Rather, they are in doubt about My message. Rather, they have not yet tasted My punishment.
