Verse (34:9), Word 1 - Quranic Grammar

The first word of verse (34:9) is divided into 3 morphological segments. An interrogative alif, supplemental particle and negative particle. The prefixed alif is an interrogative particle used to form a question and is usually translated as "is", "are", or "do". The supplemental particle fa is usually translated as "then" or "so".

The analysis above refers to the ninth verse of chapter 34 (sūrat saba):

Sahih International: Then, do they not look at what is before them and what is behind them of the heaven and earth? If We should will, We could cause the earth to swallow them or [could] let fall upon them fragments from the sky. Indeed in that is a sign for every servant turning back [to Allah].
