Verse (30:9), Word 30 - Quranic Grammar

The 30th word of verse (30:9) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A verb and subject pronoun. The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is third person masculine plural. The verb's triliteral root is kāf wāw nūn (ك و ن). The verb (كان) belongs to a special group of words known as kāna and her sisters (كان واخواتها). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun.

The analysis above refers to the ninth verse of chapter 30 (sūrat l-rūm):

Sahih International: Have they not traveled through the earth and observed how was the end of those before them? They were greater than them in power, and they plowed the earth and built it up more than they have built it up, and their messengers came to them with clear evidences. And Allah would not ever have wronged them, but they were wronging themselves.
