Verse (30:9), Word 1 - Quranic Grammar

The first word of verse (30:9) is divided into 3 morphological segments. An interrogative alif, supplemental particle and negative particle. The prefixed alif is an interrogative particle used to form a question and is usually translated as "is", "are", or "do". The supplemental particle wa is usually translated as "then" or "so".

The analysis above refers to the ninth verse of chapter 30 (sūrat l-rūm):

Sahih International: Have they not traveled through the earth and observed how was the end of those before them? They were greater than them in power, and they plowed the earth and built it up more than they have built it up, and their messengers came to them with clear evidences. And Allah would not ever have wronged them, but they were wronging themselves.
