Verse (2:96), Word 17 - Quranic Grammar

__

The seventeenth word of verse (2:96) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A preposition, active participle and possessive pronoun. The prefixed preposition bi is usually translated as "with" or "by". The form II active participle is masculine and is in the genitive case (مجرور). The active participle's quadriliteral root is zāy ḥā zāy ḥā (ز ح ز ح). The attached possessive pronoun is third person masculine singular. Sahih International: And you will surely find them the most greedy of people for life - [even] more than those who associate others with Allah. One of them wishes that he could be granted life a thousand years, but it would not remove him in the least from the [coming] punishment that he should be granted life. And Allah is Seeing of what they do.
