Verse (2:96), Word 15 - Quranic Grammar

The fifteenth word of verse (2:96) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A resumption particle and negative particle. The connective particle wa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate a sequence of events. The negative particle acts like the verb laysa (ليس). This verb belongs to a special group of words known as kāna and her sisters (كان واخواتها).

Verse (2:96)

The analysis above refers to the 96th verse of chapter 2 (sūrat l-baqarah):

Sahih International: And you will surely find them the most greedy of people for life - [even] more than those who associate others with Allah. One of them wishes that he could be granted life a thousand years, but it would not remove him in the least from the [coming] punishment that he should be granted life. And Allah is Seeing of what they do.
