Verse (2:76), Word 18 - Quranic Grammar

The eighteenth word of verse (2:76) is divided into 4 morphological segments. A particle of purpose, verb, subject pronoun and object pronoun. The prefixed particle lām is used to indicate the purpose of an action and makes the following verb subjunctive. The form III imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is third person masculine plural and is in the subjunctive mood (منصوب). The verb's triliteral root is ḥā jīm jīm (ح ج ج). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun. The attached object pronoun is second person masculine plural.

Verse (2:76)

Sahih International: And when they meet those who believe, they say, "We have believed"; but when they are alone with one another, they say, "Do you talk to them about what Allah has revealed to you so they can argue with you about it before your Lord?" Then will you not reason?
