Verse (2:74), Word 8 - Quranic Grammar

The eighth word of verse (2:74) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A preposition and noun. The prefixed preposition ka is usually translated as "like" or "as". The noun is feminine and is in the genitive case (مجرور). The noun's triliteral root is ḥā jīm rā (ح ج ر). Together the segments form a preposition phrase known as jār wa majrūr (جار ومجرور).

Sahih International: Then your hearts became hardened after that, being like stones or even harder. For indeed, there are stones from which rivers burst forth, and there are some of them that split open and water comes out, and there are some of them that fall down for fear of Allah. And Allah is not unaware of what you do.
