Verse (2:272), Word 13 - Quranic Grammar

The thirteenth word of verse (2:272) is divided into 4 morphological segments. A resumption particle, preposition, noun and possessive pronoun. The connective particle fa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate a sequence of events. The prefixed preposition lām is usually translated as "for". The noun is feminine plural and is in the genitive case (مجرور). The noun's triliteral root is nūn fā sīn (ن ف س). The attached possessive pronoun is second person masculine plural. Together the segments form a preposition phrase known as jār wa majrūr (جار ومجرور).

Verse (2:272)

Sahih International: Not upon you, [O Muhammad], is [responsibility for] their guidance, but Allah guides whom He wills. And whatever good you [believers] spend is for yourselves, and you do not spend except seeking the countenance of Allah. And whatever you spend of good - it will be fully repaid to you, and you will not be wronged.
