Verse (29:36), Word 2 - Quranic Grammar


The second word of verse (29:36) is a proper noun in the genitive case (مجرور). The case marker is a fatḥah instead of a kasrah because the proper noun is a diptote (ممنوع من الصرف).

PN – genitive proper noun → Madyan اسم علم مجرور بالفتحة بدلاً من الكسرة لأنه ممنوع من الصرف

Verse (29:36)

The analysis above refers to the 36th verse of chapter 29 (sūrat l-ʿankabūt):

Sahih International: And to Madyan [We sent] their brother Shu'ayb, and he said, "O my people, worship Allah and expect the Last Day and do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption."
